Palladium to be the focus of jewellery development programme 6th March 2008
A market development programme for palladium jewellery which focuses on China and the US, led by Norilsk Nickel and supported by the major palladium producers in South Africa and the United States, will be planned following a study.
With the aim of establishing a clear and specific brand position for palladium jewellery, the project hopes to achieve a sustainable market with growth opportunities for palladium metal offtake.
The project follows on from the platinum jewellery development programme led by Anglo Platinum and supported by the other South African platinum producers since 1975.
Norilsk Nickel and Stillwater Mining Company will now also be supporting this programme.
In the future the same group will fund both platinum and palladium jewellery development but they will be managed by different organisations as an individual brand identity is established for palladium jewellery.
If the project is a success it will be a significant factor in enhancing the value of palladium as a jewellery metal as well as being a key strategic development for the industry.
