Over 2,000 fuel cell installations in operation worldwide 24th August 2005
There are now over 2,000 fuel cell installations in operation across the globe, according to a new report.
They can be found as on-site or backup power options in over 26 countries, says the report from Fuel Cells 2000.
These locations include both small- and large-scale buildings, both public and private. Universities, farms, hospitals and military bases are just some of the examples given.
Fuel Cells 2000 has updated a comprehensive chart which lists all the locations, types, and manufacturers of these fuel cell installations.
"Fuel cell power generation systems tend to be overlooked in favour of automobiles, but they have been in the field for years, proving over and over to be a viable technology for stationary and backup applications," explained Jennifer Gangi, programme director at Fuel Cells 2000.
"We hope that our examination of fuel cells in the real world will help policy makers and the public - and potential customers - gain a better appreciation for the versatility and advantages of fuel cells," she added.
