Output unaffected by closures, says Lonmin Platinum

Enforced closures at Lonmin Platinum's operations will not affect its annual output, the miner has announced.

October saw the world's third-biggest platinum producer suspend operations at two of its shafts for a four-day period after a worker died in an accident.

However, in a conference call Lonmin Platinum Chief Executive Brad Mills said that the firm is "not forecasting any impact for the full year".

News of Mr Mills' projections comes as the firm announced that its sales of platinum fell by 16 per cent in 2007 to 793,584 oz from a restated 939,654 oz.

However, the firm expects this to recover in 2008, with sales of 900,000 oz predicted.
