Operations resumed at Pilanesberg platinum mine 15th June 2009

Platmin confirmed on Friday (12th June) that operations at its Pilanesberg mine in South Africa have now resumed.

The emerging pgm producer revealed early last week that work had been halted at the platinum facility in order to allow for an ad hoc inspection by the Inspector of Mines.

However, the company has now confirmed that, following a number of adjustments to operating procedures by the contractor, MCC Contracts, mining is underway again.

Platmin also revealed that the stoppage had a "negligible" impact on pgm production, while the commissioning of the plant was continued by taking feed from the mine's stockpile.

The site, located on the western limb of the Bushveld Complex - which is thought to hold 90 per cent of the world's platinum resources - is currently being ramped up to full production.

Platmin also has interests in a number of other exploration and development projects on the eastern limb, including Mphahlele, Grootboom and Loskop.
