Norway opens first hydrogen station 7th September 2006

Norway has marked the opening of the country's first hydrogen fuel station with the arrival of 15 Toyota Prius hybrid vehicles.

The vehicles were delivered to Miljobil Grenland by US firm Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies at the opening of the new station on the hydrogen highway near Stavanger.

Launching the new station represents a major step in Norway's efforts to introduce a clean-fuel highway between the capital, Oslo, and western Norway's port of Stavanger.

"Quantum is proud to be the supplier of the first hydrogen vehicles to be driving on Norway's Hydrogen Highway," commented the firm's chairman, Dale Rasmussen.

Dubbed HyNor, the plans will eventually see five hydrogen filling stations established along the route and it is hoped that the highway will be the first of a clean energy transport infrastructure spanning the whole of Scandinavia.
