Northam Platinum announces wage deal 3rd August 2007
Northam Platinum is set to agree terms with mining unions over wages, the firm has stated.
The company has announced it is preparing to provide a ten per cent increase in wages after trade unions agreed to the proposals.
Spokeswoman Marion Brower told Reuters that there are no further details available on the deal at present, but the agreement represents one of the first between miners and platinum companies in South Africa during the latest round of negotiations.
Northam has also announced a major increase in profits during the year ended July 30th, but reported a ten per cent downturn in production over the period largely due to a drop in head grade at its Merensky operations.
