Northam Platinum announces production fall 1st February 2007

Northam Platinum has announced a fall in platinum group metal (pgm) concentrate production during the first half of the 2007 financial year.

Revealing a 3.3 per cent reduction in output of pgms in concentrate during the six months to December 31st, the platinum miner said that it had "creditably contained" the anticipated decline.

PGM production stood at 180,623 ounces for the period, while milled tonnages increased by 4.9 per cent compared to the six months to December 31st 2005.

The higher milled tonnages were largely offset by lower head grades and Northam Chief Executive Glyn Lewis forecast further falls in production over the course of the coming six months.

Mr Lewis predicted production and sales of pgms during the second half of the financial year would be down by 15 per cent compared to those seen in the first six months.
