North American Palladium mine back in operation 17th February 2006
Crushing and milling operations have returned to normal at North American Palladium's (NAP) Lac des Iles mine following disruption earlier this month.
Officials confirmed that operations had been fully restored at the mine, which is Canada's only primary producer of platinum group metals.
An initial closedown was ordered after a tailings leak resulted in flooding, causing disruption to the milling and primary crusher functions. Any production losses were limited as the mill was brought back online as soon as possible.
Portable crushing units were used to keep production going and power was finally reconnected this week after repairs and safety checks were carried out.
"I am pleased to report that operations are back in full swing here at Lac des Iles and that there was no environmental impact as a result of the leak," commented Jim Excell, president and CEO of the firm.
"Our team here has done an excellent job in managing this situation, while ensuring that the repair process was completed as quickly and seamlessly as possible."
