North American Palladium has expanded its exploration activities with the acquisition of a prospective portion of the Shawmere Anorthosite Complex in Canada.

The firm acquired a 100 per cent interest in the portion through staking 39 claims containing 632 claim units in the complex.

North American anticipates commencing a grassroots exploration programme at the complex in spring 2008 to assess its potential for platinum group metals (pgms), as well as for nickel and copper.

James Excell, President and Chief Executive Officer of North American Palladium, said: "Grassroots exploration is an important ongoing part of our growth strategy. We are intrigued by the favorable geology that we have identified at Shawmere.

"The company is continually looking for attractive new platinum group metal projects and we look forward to commencing our exploration program of mapping, airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys and geochemical studies next spring."

News of the North American Palladium's move comes as the company is currently pursuing three development projects elsewhere.

As well as the Arctic Platinum Project in Finland, operations are continuing at the Offset High Grade Zone at the Lac des Iles mine and at the Shedandowan Project.
