Norilsk Nickel to build platinum group metal resource base 8th December 2011
Norilsk Nickel will grow its platinum group metal resource base in the Norilsk Industrial Region to 5,080 ts by 2025, the firm has said.
It is part of a wider strategy announced by the firm to develop its mineral resource base programme within the framework of the Technical and Operational Development Strategy over the next 14 years.
Total investment into the development of the firm's mineral resource base, including development of the existing mining assets and construction and commissioning of new mines, will reach $10.9 billion.
"Key long-term objectives include reserve growth across all ore types at existing deposits, additional exploration and launch of new deposits as well as search for prospective areas in close proximity to existing fields," the company said in a statement.
Norilsk is world's largest producer of nickel and palladium, and is also one of the biggest producers of platinum, rhodium, copper and cobalt.
