New micro fuel cells ready for market 15th June 2006
A US fuel cell developer has announced that its new range of methanol fuel cells is ready for sale.
UltraCell said that its XX25 fuel cells would now become available to customers in critical markets.
The fuel cells could be used in a whole new set of applications as they are highly mobile and wireless.
A single fuel cell cartridge will run a ruggedised laptop for up to three working days, it said.
"This occasion is a major step forward for micro fuel cell technology," said James Kaschmitter, chief executive of UltraCell.
"It represents our official going-to-market with a revolutionary methanol fuel cell system that will literally cut the cord from electrical dependence.
"Beta units of the XX25 are available for order now by qualified customers in a wide variety of market segments, including military, ruggedised PCs, satellite systems, first responders, remote monitoring and industrial applications," he added.
The methanol fuel cell system generates fuel-cell-ready hydrogen from a highly concentrated methanol solution.
