New coating agents unveiled for low-platinum systems 3rd September 2009
A Munich-based chemical firm has announced the launch of a range of new paper-coating and film-coating release agents for use in low-platinum systems.
Wacker Chemie revealed that it is set to launch its DEHESIVE 971 brand of polymer components at the Labelexpo Europe 2009 convention in Brussels later this month.
The platinum-catalysed, addition-curing silicone product offers a reduction of up to 60 per cent in the amount of the precious metal required in comparison to its rivals.
A statement from the company explained that the DEHESIVE 971 agents are ideal for use in high-speed coating lines due to their high reactivity.
"They produce a completely cured silicone film whose release properties have been optimised for machine peeling at high throughput," read one section.
"Consequently, release-liner and label manufacturers can noticeably lower the costs of the entire silicone system without affecting the silicone film's quality."
Wacker also noted that minimal force is required for peeling labels off, which is particularly useful for the quick stripping associated with the mass production of consumer goods.
Furthermore, the silicone coating system is versatile, in the sense that the crosslinker, platinum catalyst and controlled-release additive can be tweaked "to suit application conditions".
Labelexpo Europe 2009 gets underway in the Belgian capital on 23rd September and runs until 26th September.
