New Chief Executive for Zimplats 5th July 2007

Impala Platinum has announced that Alex Mhembere will take on the role of Chief Executive at the company's Zimbabwean operations, Zimplats.

Mr Mhembere, who is currently managing director at Impala and Aquarius Platinum joint venture, Mimosa Mining, will take on the role from October, Zimplats has confirmed.

Impala Platinum has not given a reason for appointing a new Chief Executive from October, but a statement from the company welcomed the arrival of Mr Mhembere.

"The board looks forward to him leading the Zimplats team towards the achievement of the company's long-term goal of producing one million ounces of platinum per annum in that country," the statement said.

Mr Mhembere will preside over efforts to boost production at Zimplats from its current level of 90,000 ounces per year to 160,000 ounces by 2010. The company's long-term aim is to become a one million ounce per year platinum producer.
