Platinum Guild International China (PGI China) has announced the appointment of actress Zhang Ziyi.

The internationally successful star will become the new brand ambassador for PGI in greater China and makes her debut with the launch of the trade organisation's 2007 platinum jewellery collection this April.

In a statement, the guild said: " PGI is looking forward to a successful partnership with Zhang Ziyi. In her career, Zhang Ziyi has made constant breakthroughs thanks to her courage, perseverance and confidence as well as years of hard work. Her remarkable character and temperament echoes the innate qualities and brilliance of platinum."

China is the world's largest market for platinum jewellery and trade organisation PGI has been promoting the global platinum trade for the past 30 years.

The recent PGI Loving Being a Woman campaign has been a particular success and the guild hopes that Zhang Ziyi will "create another exciting dimension to the 'Platinum Woman'".

Zhang Ziyi has been nominated for the best actress prize at the first Asian Film Awards, which will take place in Hong Kong on March 20th, for her performance in The Banquet.

She has previously appeared in a string of acclaimed films, including Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Hero.
