More marques anticipate greater demand for diesel cars 15th January 2008
More car marques have added diesel models with platinum autocatalysts to their ranges in expectation of increased demand in the US market, it has been reported.
This week, Matthias Wissmann, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, said that clean diesel will be at the forefront of German marques' marketing strategies this year.
Now, further evidence has been provided that diesel could be about to come to the fore with the unveiling of diesel versions of a Dodge Truck, a Mitsubishi coupe and an Audi sports car at this week's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Financial Times reports.
Meanwhile, Toyota has confirmed it plans to launch a clean diesel version of its Tundra pick-up truck and the Sequoia sports utility vehicle (SUV).
It is thought that the increased demand has resulted from American consumers reacting to skyrocketing fuel prices and opting for diesel vehicles for the greater fuel economy they offer.
Diesel engines offer drivers around 30 per cent higher fuel efficiency than petrol and also provide more torque and in turn greater acceleration.
