Messina details development plans 20th April 2004

Junior platinum miner Messina says it is seeking to finalise plans for the new structure of the Greater Messina mine.

The firm issued its annual report, and revealed further details on plans to combine assets from Messina Platinum Mines, SouthernEra Resources and Mvelaphanda Resources.

The combination would potentially create a single resource possessing over 20 kilometres of strike, including the Merensky and UG2 reefs.

"This could support a major mine that would be able to produce 700,000 ounces (of pgms) per annum by 2010," Messina said, according to Business Day.

A feasibility study on the proposal is scheduled for completion this year, as the firm continues its multi-phase development.

Messina has built the Voorspoed mine in the last three years and is already on its way to achieving full production at the site by June 2004.

A total of 570 kilos of pgms were produced in 2003 by Messina, largely as a result of the Voorspoed pgm mine and additional mineral leases near Lebowakgomo in the Limpopo province on the Bushveld Igneous Complex.
