Lonmin sees record platinum production 15th November 2006

Platinum miner Lonmin has announced record production levels for 2006, boosting its profits.

The company saw its pre-tax profits almost double for the year to September 30th, thanks to significant growth in its platinum production.

Lonmin announced that production had increased over the 12 months to 1,017,137 ounces of platinum in concentrate.

Chief executive Brad Mills welcomed the "excellent set of results" and quickly looked to the future.

"Lonmin has a clear strategy and we are targeting production growth to around 1.4 million ounces of platinum in 2012," he said.

Meanwhile, the mining firm also announced that it has made a pre-conditional offer to acquire AfriOre, as part of its efforts to boost production levels in line with its aims.

Lonmin has made a cash offer worth $7.74 per share, valuing AfriOre at US$441 million.
