London platinum jewellery party is a hit, despite tube strike 12th June 2009
The latest platinum jewellery designs were on display at a special event in London on Wednesday (10th June) night, Reuters reports.
As part of Coutts London Jewellery Week, Platinum Guild International invited leading British jewellers and retailers to the chic party, which took place in Covent Garden.
Among the designs on show at the soiree were a necklace and bangle from a collection known as 'Riverdance' - produced by Indian luxury jeweller Ganjam - and a number of top Italian pieces.
The event proved to be a major success, with interest failing to be dimmed by the tube strike that threatened to paralyse London's transport network in the past two days.
One guest was Jayant Raniga from British-Asian jeweller PureJewels, who told the news provider: "Coutts London Jewellery Week is again an outstanding showcase for the industry's talents."
The week also featured British jeweller Shaun Leane marking his tenth anniversary by showcasing three new chunky resin bangles at the Selfridges department store in west London.
Another of the 100 events to make up the seven days was online retailer Ashley Clarke parading four new limited-edition pieces from fashion designer Osman Yousefzada.
Meanwhile, visitors strolled along the Swarovski-studded carpet at the Burlington Arcade in Piccadilly and a number of activities took place at the Hatton Garden diamond jewellery district.
The Elizabeth Street Carnival on Wednesday night highlighted some of the finest pieces in the Belgravia district, while Treasure, an exhibition of over 60 of the UK's best designers, is open from 12th to 14th June at the Flower Cellars in Covent Garden.
