LCD TV sales set to soar 22nd November 2005

LCD TVs will soon account for almost 50 per cent of worldwide television sales, according to new analysis.

Taiwanese LCD firm AU Optronics predicts that shipments will rise sharply once sales exceed the ten per cent mark, with growth quickly escalating.

AU Optronics hopes that sales of its LCD TV's follow the pattern of LCD monitors, which took four years to hit the ten per cent mark but just three-and-a-half years more to reach 50 per cent.

A study by iSuppli predicts that global LCD TV sales will account for 9.7 per cent of television shipments this year, representing 17.14 million units.

LG Electronics, recently announced a 19 per cent third quarter jump in television sales, which has been put down to the growing market for LCD screens.

Market researchers at Strategy Analytics Connected Home Devices have predicted that global sales of flat panel TVs will rocket by 66 per cent this year - potentially positive for pgm demand which are used in the manufacturing process.
