LCD sales 'to double' 21st December 2005
It has been claimed that sales of LCD screens from Taiwan in 2005 are set to be double that of last year.
According to figures from market research firm GfK Marketing Services, there will be as many as 220,000 to 250,000 units shipped from Taiwan by the end of this year, up from 96,000 units sold in 2004.
The company states that there have already been 180,000 units shipped during the first ten months of 2005, with the plasma display panel (PDP) market particularly strong.
Up to 70 per cent of all LCD television shipments this quarter in Taiwan have been the mainstream 32-inch LCD screens, which made up just 40 per cent of the market at the same time last year.
GfK explains that the increases are in part as a result of the aggressive marketing strategies of vendors, which has resulted in a price war, making LCD screens far more affordable than in the past.
Many companies are planning to up production in 2006 as demand for LCD television screens looks set to continue its growth, but some analysts have warned that a jump in production could cause a glut in the market if demand drops off.
