LCD sales set to rise 5th January 2006

The LCD television market is expected to continue its steady growth in the coming years, experts predict.

According to figures from iSuppli, the TV market will see a compound annual growth rate of 3.2 per cent over the next four years, with flat panel sets gaining an increased market share.

The company predicts that global TV sales will top 200 million in 2009, with regular CRT TV sales dropping to 50 per cent of all televisions sold.

Decreasing prices, which are claimed to be falling at an annual rate of 30 per cent, improved sizes of screen, and consumer desire for digital televisions are all expected to contribute to growth in the LCD market.

Many experts believe that plasma display panel (PDP) televisions, which are in competition with LCDs, will be edged out as LCD manufacturers continually slash costs.

The latest LCD TV developments are expected to be unveiled at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month.

Some analysts still harbour concerns that there could be a glut in the market this year, however, as many manufacturers have already unveiled plans for large expansion programmes.
