Taiwan’s top five manufacturers of TFT-LCD panels have all announced record single month sales for October.

AU Optronics, the largest of the five, reported October sales of NT$24 billion, 9.4 per cent more than expected.

And AUO believes that its large-size panel shipments will rise a further 15 per cent this quarter.

South Korean giants Samsung and LG Philips still lead the way on sales but perhaps not for much longer.

Both plants have been running at near full capacity for the past months and with no plans to improve capacity until the new year, AUO could well close the gap.

Taiwan is now the world's second largest TFT-LCD manufacturer after South Korea as sales at Taiwanese companies rose by 85 per cent for the first three quarters this year.
