LCD forecast increased 19th March 2007
The projected number of LCD television screens to be shipped during 2007 has been increased following considerable cuts in prices.
Market analyst, iSuppli, has adjusted its predictions for the year, suggesting that panel shipments this year will reach 75.2 million, up from a suggested 72.9 million panels that had been predicted by the company in the final quarter of last year.
The increased forecast has been put down to rapid reductions in the price of LCD televisions across the world.
The new figures are 42.7 per cent higher than the amount of screen sold during 2006 and enhance the suggestion that the market will break through the 100 million unit mark by the end of 2008.
Sweta Dash, director of LCD and projection research at iSuppli, suggested that by 2011 LCD televisions will account for "65 per cent of all television unit shipments worldwide".
