Johnson Matthey technology reduces emissions in diesel trucks 26th March 2008

The latest diesel emissions technology from Johnson Matthey has demonstrated that older trucks can be as clean as modern ones.

In a recent trial, the SCRT® system was installed into 16 grocery trucks in North California and tested over 1,000 hours as the trucks hauled their products around stores.

The 4-way SCRT® exhaust emission control system combines Johnson Matthey's two-stage CRT particulate filter system with a selective catalytic reduction catalyst enabling it to reduce particulate matter by 85 per cent and oxides of nitrogen by a minimum of 60 per cent.

Carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons are also reduced by over 90 per cent.

The study shows that a four-year-old truck could run with NOx emissions lower than those found in brand new vehicles.

Marty Lassen, Director of Commercial Development and Marketing at Johnson Matthey, said: "Johnson Matthey is extremely pleased with the real world results that the SCRT® system has shown.

"This will literally give a new lease on life to many older trucks that are capable of providing ongoing service, but in stock form cannot meet new ARB private fleet emissions standards," he added.
