Johnson Matthey launches emission control plant in Macedonia 15th April 2010
Johnson Matthey has officially opened its new £34 million emission control catalyst plant in Macedonia, it was confirmed yesterday (14th April).
The facility, which is located in the Bunardjick Technological and Industrial Development Zone, will initially produce four million units per year.
Operations will focus on developing light-duty diesel autocatalysts and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts for heavy-duty vehicles, all coming from automated production lines.
"We wanted this plant to be the first of a new global design for Johnson Matthey and I believe [it is] the finest, most advanced emission control catalyst production facility that exists anywhere in the world," said Larry Pentz, Executive Director of the company's Environmental Technologies Division.
The plant, which was opened by Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, was devised as a response to the growing demand for emission control technology.
Clean emission regulations are being tightened across the globe and SCR catalysts, which reduce the release of nitrogen oxide, help diesel vehicles meet the Euro IV and V standards.
Johnson Matthey now has 15 manufacturing plants in Europe, the US, Asia, South America and Africa.
