Platinum has traditionally been the discerning choice for brides seeking high-end jewellery, but a new market could now be opening, according to a new report.

The National Jeweller Network claims that pieces such as stud earrings and delicate chains are finding favour with shoppers amid the recent cooling in the platinum price.

"Now that previously sky-high prices, long an obstacle to the platinum sale, have dropped, the metal may find some newfound fans shopping for fashion pieces too," noted the report.

Jeremy Hoye has unveiled Blitz, a collection of 18-carat and platinum rings, and Triffid, which features black, blue and white diamonds in its 18-carat and platinum designs.

Jewellers see huge uptake to hallmark palladium (17/08/09)

UK jewellers have experienced a huge surge in the hallmarking of palladium items after it received official precious metal status in July, the Birmingham Post reports.

According to the newspaper, almost 5,000 pieces received the hallmark across the country's four assay offices in the first nine days following the decision.

"So far most of the items we have seen have been wedding rings, but we expect to see designers experimenting widely with this 'new' metal now that consumers have the additional reassurance of a hallmark," Birmingham Assay Office Chief Executive Michael Allchin told the publication.
