Indian film actress and model Genelia D'Souza unveiled a new range of precious and rare platinum jewellery at Joyalukkas in Bangalore.

Commenting on the new designs, she said: "Platinum jewellery is the choice of today's woman because of their subtle yet intricate and elegant designs, fulfilling the emotion of making one feel truly special."

Mr Joy Alukkas, managing director of Joyalukkas Jewellery, explained that demand for platinum jewellery at the store has seen a sharp growth recently.

"Platinum designs are elegant and timeless, which fit seamlessly to go with any look. The naturally white metal looks brilliant when diamonds are set in platinum," he added.

Gisela Stuart, the Labour MP for Edgbaston, has written to ministers protesting against the possible end to hallmarking.

She warned that ending the practice as part of the government's Red Tape challenge would lead to the closure of the Birmingham Assay Office, which is the largest of its kind in Europe.

"The Assay Office is a Birmingham institution which provides essential protection for consumers," Ms Stuart said.

Platinum jewellery demand on a rise in India (06/05/11)

Platinum demand in India has seen growth of between 45 and 50 per cent in the last year.
It comes after prices for the precious metal rose by a modest 15 per cent against a 30 per cent rise in gold, the traditional choice for jewellery in the country.

Jewelry Industry Continues Search for Ultimate Proposal Story (19/05/11)

Today (May 23rd) is the deadline for entries for the Ultimate Proposal Contest being sponsored by the Jewelery Information Center (JIC).

The couple who submits the winning proposal story will receive two platinum and diamond rings by MaeVona and a seven-night cruise for two to the Caribbean on Norwegian Cruise Line.
