Platinum jewellery options for Father's Day gifts (24/05/11).
Some of the platinum jewellery options available as gifts for Father's Day yesterday (June 19th) were revealed by celebrity stylist Michael O'Connor.
He suggested a platinum signet ring, available at Gemvara.com. "I love this round engravable signet ring because it makes the gift even more personalised and since it's crafted in platinum, the engraving will never fade," he explained.
Platinum cufflinks with blue sapphires from Beladora.com were also recommended, as were Erica Courtney platinum shirt studs.
Mr O'Connor also noted that a platinum and diamond tie accent from CliQ and a platinum link bracelet from Anjolee.com would make good gifts.
JVC Releases 'Essential Guide to the U.S. Trade in Platinum Jewelry' (26/05/11)
The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) has released The Essential Guide to the U.S. Trade in Platinum Jewelry, intended to clarify the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) 2010 revised standards on the platinum, jewellery and precious metal trade.
It includes legal standards for platinum, a glossary of terms, two platinum tolerance charts and a frequently asked questions section.
Cecilia Gardner, JVC president, said: "This Essential Guide explains fairly complex FTC amendments for the marketing and stamping of products containing platinum. This tool gives practical guidance on how to compliantly market and describe these products."

Kim Kardashian has been spotted wearing her platinum engagement ring by Lorraine Schwartz.
The ring, which was given to her from fiancée Kris Humphries and is estimated to be worth over $1 million, features a 16.5-carat emerald cut centre stone, flanked by a pair of two-carat trapezoids.
Jewellery expert Michael O'Connor said: "The emerald cut centre is a classic cut, but the trapezoids modernise the style."
Goldsmiths' Co backs New Designers for ninth year (07/06/11)
The Goldsmiths' Company is to once again sponsor the Jewellery and Precious Metalwork Zone at the New Designers Exhibition, taking place at London's Business Design Centre between June 29th and July 2nd.
Designers can win prizes worth £1,500 in two categories - silver and jewellery. Winners will also be granted a place on the Goldsmiths' Company’s annual graduate business course Getting Started.
Peter Taylor, director of technology and training at the firm, said: "The Goldsmiths' Company strongly believes that without the continued encouragement and development of creative talent the future of the craft in the UK will be in jeopardy."

Twilight actress Nikki Reed has been sporting her new eternity platinum and diamond engagement ring.
"This is a modern version of a platinum and diamond eternity ring that could also work as a stunning wedding band," said jewellery expert Michael O'Connor, who added that "it features full diamonds surrounded by intertwining platinum".
May hallmarking figures fall 32.5% (08/06/11)
The number of platinum items being hallmarked in the UK fell in May. Slightly under 20,000 items were assayed during the month with a purity of 950.
Fifteen items of platinum with a standard of 999 were hallmarked, similar to figures from May last year. Overall, platinum hallmarking fell 15.6 per cent.
However, an extra 1,251 palladium pieces were hallmarked in May, marking 12.5 per cent increase on the same month last year.
The rise was driven by palladium of 500 marks, with an increase of 1,484 items hallmarked last month.
London Jewellery Week gets off to a glam start (07/06/11)
The May Fair Hotel was the setting for a glamorous start to London Jewellery Week 2011, which saw the launch of the Platinum Heritage collection by retailer PureJewels.
The east London firm collaborated with a number of designers on the collection, including Ana De Costa, Sarah Ho, Cara Tonkin and Milena Kovanovic, Anthony Rousell and Nina Koutibashvili.

Over 120 jewellers and designers displayed their latest work at the Treasure event as part of London Jewellery Week 2011.
Treasure hosted a Goldsmiths' Company Pavilion that featured new technologies including laser welded platinum jewels by Tom Rucker.
Meanwhile, at an event at the May Fair Hotel, PureJewels revealed platinum couture pieces by designers including Anthony Roussel, who has used an innovative combination of wood with platinum and diamonds.
Joyalukkas To Invest Rs 425 cr (11/06/11)
Kochi-based textiles and jewellery retailer Joyalukkas India has said it plans to invest Rs 425 crore (£60 million) to open 14 new outlets in two years to help it expand in to the platinum and diamond sectors.
"Joyalukkas plans to focus on large format stores and develop its existing branded jewellery lines and introduce additional sub-brands in the diamond and platinum jewellery markets," managing director Alukkas Varghese Joy said.
