Italian design wins first place at JCK Design Couture Awards (12/06/09)

A special platinum bracelet designed by the Topclub/Roberto Demeglio atelier picked up first prize in the platinum category of the recent JCK Design Couture Awards.

Known as 'Zebra', the piece features 115g of platinum, while also incorporating carbon and showing off a total of 96 black diamonds.


IWC's Father and Son Pilot's Watches (12/06/09)

IWC last month launched an exclusive new pair of watches, designed to be worn by both father and son, to mark Father's Day.

The father's version is a 46mm platinum timepiece and the son's watch is stainless steel, while both feature automatic movements with date displays.

'Pilot's Watches' can be purchased for a total of $49,000 per two-piece set, with IWC also offering larger collections.


PGI-USA names Platinum Couture winners (16/06/09)

The top five winners at the second annual Platinum Couture Style Challenge in the US were announced on 31st May.

More than 40 platinum jewellery pieces were entered into the competition, which was put on by Platinum Guild International (PGI) and leading jewellery event Couture.

Hearts on Fire won the Bridal Atelier award for a modern, 2.5-carat wedding ring, while designer Tom Munsteiner picked up the Colours award for a bracelet featuring a 29.26-carat aquamarine stone.

The Red Carpet award was scooped by luxury jeweller Erica Courtney for a platinum and diamond rose-cut bezel chain that also included a 7.69-carat Queens charm.

Gurhan received the Luxury for Everyday gong for a facetted opal Mexican ring set in platinum with granulation accents, while Shaesby secured the Bridal Boutique honour for a platinum lily bridal ring with seven carats of diamonds.

"The Platinum Couture Style Challenge has turned into one of the main attractions at the [Las] Vegas shows," said Jenny Luker, Senior Vice-President of the PGI.

"The media plays a key role in both consumer and retailer buying habits, so we hope that the additional exposure of this contest will have a positive effect on all of its participants."


Aficionados shop for world's most exclusive watches (29/06/09)

A number of the world's largest watch designers came to London last month to show off some exclusive, unique timepieces.

In an event organised by a group of bloggers, plenty of wealthy buyers turned out at Mayfair-based luxury boutique William & Son to see the watches, some of which were worth over £100,000.

One of the designs was De Bethune's $123,600, platinum-cased Dream Watch 1, which features a balance wheel made of silicon, ringed with platinum for greater performance.

"The watches collector has a Bentley in his garage and a Picasso on his wall, but when he walks into the office, he wants to wear something unique, a work of art," David Witkover, North American Agent for the firm, told Reuters.


Austin's Zoltan David wins award for his silver gypsy bracelet (02/07/09)

Sir Zoltan David has been honoured in National Jeweller's 'Best Of' awards for his silver-plated, ruthenium gypsy bracelet with an 18-carat gold clasp.

The $3,400 piece also features tsavorite, spessartite, and blue and pink sapphires.


Engagement ring Kevin Jonas designed for Danielle Deleasa (03/07/09)

Kevin Jonas, of Jonas Brothers fame, has proposed to girlfriend Danielle Deleasa with a platinum ring he helped to design, examiner.com reports.

The 21-year-old joined forces with Jacob and Co to produce the three-carat, cushion-cut diamond solitaire, which has a double shank band with 210 pave diamonds, adding a further 0.72 carats.


Meanwhile, celebrities have been appearing at various red carpet events and marking the occasion by showing off some impressive platinum jewellery.

Evan Rachel Wood, Camila Alves, Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Chalke, Chelsea Handler, Maggie Grace, Claire Danes and Michelle Trachtenberg have all worn their platinum pieces at awards ceremonies and premieres.

Similarly, Kendra Wilkinson, Queen Latifah, Marlon Wayans, Paula Patton, Keri Hilson, Zooey Deschanel, Anne Heche and Ashley Green have also sported their chosen platinum designs recently.
