Hollywood's leading ladies decided to opt for platinum jewellery at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, which took place last night (February 27th).

Co-host for the Oscars evening Anne Hathaway opted for platinum and 94.29 carat diamond necklace, platinum and 5.13 carat diamond ring, and a pair of platinum and 10.15 carat diamond earrings by Tiffany & Co.

Best Actress Natalie Portman chose the same maker for her platinum and diamond ring.

Other stars wearing platinum jewellery at the Oscars included Amy Adams, Mila Kunis, Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

One of Hollywood's favourite platinum jewellery designers has offered his revealed the secrets of Oscar night red carpet glamour.
Neil Lane, whose platinum jewellery was worn by the likes of Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Hudson, says it is as much about the woman wearing it as the jewellery itself.

"You have to own the look – you have to wear the jewellery, not let the jewellery wear you – that’s the real secret to looking glamorous, and the women who wear my jewellery, they have that secret," he explains.

Amy Adams, who was up for a best supporting actress award at the Oscars for her role in The Fighter, wore $1.35 million worth of Cartier jewellery at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

She sparkled in a platinum watch bracelet with 30.75 carats of emerald and 21.5 carats of diamonds, a platinum necklace with a 33.24 carat emerald and 15.38 carats of diamonds, and a pair of platinum and two carat diamond stud earrings.

SAG Awards: The good look (01/02/11)

Hollywood's great and good donned both diamond and coloured gemstone styles at the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

According to jewellery expert Michael O'Connor, there was as much white diamond as coloured gemstone, with 30 Rock star Tina Fey and Annette Bening among the best-dressed ladies on the red carpet.

Fey wore platinum and diamond earrings and a ring by Lorraine Schwartz, while Bening had a diamond and gold cocktail ring from Neil Lane.

Natalie Portman added a splash of colour to her look with 27.95 platinum and yellow diamond drop earrings and platinum bangles by Tiffany & Co.

According to Helena Krodel from the Jewelry Information Center, this set was worth $2 million (£1.24 million).

Grammys glitter: Elaborate earrings, chunky cuffs (16/02/11)

This year's Grammy's saw elaborate earrings, multiple cuffs, stunning bangles and ornate cocktail rings all taking centre stage.

"For earrings, a lot of celebrities were doing variations on a chandelier," said Helena Krodel from Jewelers of America, who added that "the music industry embraces fashion-forward looks".

Mya wore Indian-inspired chandeliers, while Selena Gomez was seen in a large, round pair of drop-style earrings with embellished discs by Lorraine Schwartz.

Singer Jennifer Hudson wore a pair of platinum and onyx chandelier earrings by Neil Lane.

Meanwhile diamond and gold bangles seemed to be all the rage with the likes of Nancy O'Dell, Miranda Lambert and LeeAnn Rimes all choosing the attention-grabbing accessories.

Vivienne Westwood launches jewellery collection (21/02/11)

London Fashion Week got off to its customary stylish start as Dame Vivienne Westwood launched her new jewellery collection with a glitzy party on Friday February 18th.

The new Get A Life Palladium line, which features symbols from nature and pagan rituals, is designed to raise awareness about climate change.

Dame Vivienne said: "Get a Life is not about jewellery. Get a Life is about how we stop climate change and therefore preserve life for the next generation while at that same time get a better life."

Guests at the Wallace Collection party included Olivia Palermo, Lily Cole, Roisin Murphy, Jo Wood and BRIT Award winner Jessie J.

Model Lily Cole is a big fan of Vivienne Westwood's new Get A Life range of Palladium jewellery.

Attending the launch party of the line, Ms Cole said she loves the pagan ideas and environmental themes in the jewellery.

"I'm really happy to be here for Vivienne Westwood's launch of her new couture jewellery line, the pieces are really beautiful and I love the ideology behind it," she said.

Meanwhile, singer Jessie J wore a headpiece from the new collection that she described as "beautiful".

The Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles saw no shortage of stars wearing platinum on the red carpet.

Julie Bowen, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Naya Rivera were all wearing Neil Lane platinum and diamond pieces by Neil Lane, while Colin Firth chose platinum shirt studs with diamonds and onyx from the designer.

The Orange British Academy Film Awards in London on February 13th saw Amy Adams and Barbara Hershey sparkle in platinum jewellery by Cartier.

At the Grammy Awards, Jennifer Lopez also dazzled in Cartier, choosing platinum and diamond Art Deco dangling earrings and a platinum ring with diamonds, onyx and emeralds.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez wore Lorraine Schwartz platinum and diamond bracelets and earrings, while Jennifer Hudson was covered with Neil Lane platinum and diamond bracelets and earrings.

Lorraine Schwartz was also the designer of choice for Beyonce and Lea Michelle, who both opted for a combination of platinum and gemstones.

At the 13th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on February 22nd, Demi Moore sparkled in platinum and diamond oval drop earrings by Cartier.
