JD Power: Auto sales could hit 80 million in 2012 16th December 2010
Automobile sales will sustain the strong performance they enjoyed this year well into the future, according to an expert.
Bloomberg reports that director of forecasting for JD Power and Associates Jeff Schuster believes global automobile sales could top 80 million in 2012 and 118 million in 2020.
He made the comments at a conference in Ypsilanti, Michigan yesterday (December 15th), adding that worldwide automobile deliveries are set to reach a new record of 71.8 million this year, topping 2007's record of 70.3 million.
Sales in the US alone will hit 12.8 million in 2011, according to JD Power estimates, rising to 15 million in 2012 and 16 million in 2014.
"Strength in retail sales has continued past mid-November, revealing a trend toward sustained upward momentum," Mr Schuster told the Wall Street Journal last month.
"It appears that consumer confidence regarding the pace of the recovery may be easing as the industry exhibits gradual improvement."
