Japan's top carmakers increased production last month in a bid to keep up with demand both at home and abroad.

Demand for Japanese cars prompted Toyota, Nissan and Honda to raise production levels during February for the fourth month in a row.

According to the Xinhua news agency the three car giants experienced solid demand in North America, Europe and Asia.

"The trend that the automakers will keep boosting production won't change, as demand for their models is rising," analyst Naohiko Sasaki was quoted as saying.

The fortunes of Japan's top car manufacturers come in contrast to those of the world's number one motor company GM, which has seen disappointing domestic sales.
