The continuing popularity of platinum jewellery among Hollywood's cognoscenti has been underlined by reports of the jewellery that adorned the singer and actress Jennifer Lopez at her recent marriage.

Ms Lopez, who sprang a surprise wedding with her new husband Marc Anthony, was decorated with $7 million of jewellery, including a platinum and diamond necklace designed by Neil Lane.

Matching earrings, bracelets and hair ornaments rounded off the outfit, which follows a series of high-profile platinum displays in recent months.

Earlier this year Neil Lane decked out Golden Globe winner Charlize Theron in platinum and diamond bracelets, while Jennifer Garner sported platinum and diamond cuff bracelets.

According to the 2004 Mintel Precious Metal Jewellery Report, platinum has increasingly become the material used in wedding and engagement rings.
