Inco rebrands as Vale Inco 3rd December 2007

CVRD Inco has announced that it is to be rebranded as Vale Inco in line with the changes to its parent company, which has changed its name from Companhia Vale do Rio Doce to simply Vale.

Vale is to be pronounced vah-lay, the company said, and literally means 'valley'. Its subsidiary companies will also undergo a similar rebranding over the coming months.

Commenting on the change to the Canada-based company, Vale Inco's President and Chief Executive, Murilo Ferreira, said: "Our name change is the culmination of many months of work to realign our corporate identity, and to signify new beginnings, new opportunities and a positive outlook for the future."

He added: "As a mining company, 'Vale' reminds us of both our dependence on the earth's riches and our important role as stewards of the natural environment. I am very proud that 'Inco' remains in our name as an important sign of the pride we have in our heritage as a worldwide leader in nickel production."

Despite the rebranding operation, however, Mr Ferreira added that Vale Inco would remain a recognisable company for both its employees and clients across the globe.
