Impala Platinum (Implats) has announced that it has reached a two-year settlement on wages with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

The offer provides for increases on basic pay in the first year of ten per cent to A and B-level employees, while level C workers will get 8.5 per cent.

In the second year, A, B and C level employees will receive wage rises of ten, nine and eight per cent respectively.

Implats said: "This wage agreement secures a desirable two-year settlement period in which to further cement business performance and strengthen employee relations."

The NUM had initially demanded a 14 per cent hike in wages, while Implats originally offered a 6.5 per cent deal over three years.

It is a similar agreement to one struck by the union with Anglo American Platinum, which has settled on a wage increase for workers worth between 8.5 per cent and ten per cent.
