Impala: Rustenburg production to restart in a "few days" 6th August 2009
Impala Platinum revealed yesterday (5th August) that it is a "few days" away from resuming production at its Rustenburg mine in South Africa, Bloomberg reports.
The world's second-largest platinum producer closed down the facility after nine underground workers were killed by falling rocks in a shaft accident on 20th July.
Bob Gilmour, Spokesman for the firm, also confirmed that the government has now lifted a suspension order on four of the shafts that operate at the mine.
He also stated that the ban on mechanised output at the affected shafts - which are situated in the Impala Lease Area at the site - was removed on Monday.
Impala Platinum has an attributable mineral resource inventory of approximately 237 million ounces of platinum through its projects on the Bushveld Complex in South Africa and the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe.
The company produced 1.91 million ounces of platinum and 3.64 million ounces of pgms in the 2008 financial year.
