Impala Platinum (Implats) is cooperating with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) to rehire workers following an illegal strike at its Rustenburg operations.

"Parties agreed to work together to ensure that all workers get back to work," the NUM told Bloomberg.

Implats will start re-hiring workers Tuesday (February 14th) and production will resume as soon as possible, the company confirmed.

The world's second largest primary platinum producer dismissed 17,200 workers following illegal strike action two weeks ago.

It stated at the time that the workers would be able to reapply for their jobs.

The strike action and subsequent dismissals is costing the miner around 3,000 oz per day in lost output.
