The world's second-largest platinum producer has resumed its operations in South Africa, which has been hit by power cuts.

Impala Platinum Holdings has secured half its power requirement from state utility Eskom Holdings and has been able to resume worker shifts, according to MarketWatch.

Mining operations at Rustenburg were suspended on Friday due to a shortage of generating capacity at Eskom.

Impact on production has been 3,500 oz of platinum a day, according to the Johannesburg-based producer.

The condition of the provision is that Impala Platinum Holdings helps reduce the mining industry demand for power by ten per cent.

Impala Platinum Holdings is attending a meeting with Eskon today to discuss increasing operations further.

It promised that production and the financial impact will be estimated and communicated as soon as possible.

Gold and other miners have also been impacted by Eskom's revelation on Friday that it could not guarantee the supply of energy.
