Impala Platinum and Anglo Platinum 'unaffected by strike' 12th November 2007

Sunday's strike action has not impaired output at operations owned by Impala Platinum and Anglo Platinum, according to statements from the firms.

Mine construction workers affiliated to JIC Mining Services downed tools yesterday in protest over how negotiations have been enacted for working conditions and salary increases.

However, Simon Tebele, Spokesperson for Anglo Platinum, said that production was not disrupted owing to the relatively small amount of workers involved.

He told Reuters: "In our case, we're talking about a very small number [of workers], which is not going to affect production."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Impala Platinum, which employs 1,500 JIC Mining Services contract workers at its Rustenburg operations, told the news agency that the industrial action had not impacted on production.

The spokesperson also detailed contingency plans that Impala Platinum has put in place to limit the deleterious effects of the strike.
