Hydrogenics launches next generation fuel cell 15th November 2006

Fuel cell manufacturer Hydrogenics has announced the launch in 2007 of a new fuel cell power module which will be tailored to specific market requirements.

The company has revealed that its next generation HyPM'R' fuel cell model will offer durability and reliability, which is required for the fuel cells' use in mobility applications.

"One year ago, our stated goal with the HyPM 500 Series release was to move closer to end-users in the backup power and light mobility markets," said Pierre Rivard, president and chief executive of Hydrogenics.

Mr Rivard continued: "Our 2006 accomplishments are proof that we have been very successful in this."

He added that the company has looked to retain "our common HyPM platform while introducing cost-effective refinements for individual models".

Earlier this week, BAE Systems won a $5.35 million contract with the US federal transit administration to develop advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology for buses, with Hydrogenics providing the fuel cells themselves.
