Hydrogen-powered bike to feature at ONS Conference 21st August 2006
Fuel cell manufacturer Intelligent Energy is to showcase the world's first purpose-built hydrogen-powered motorbike at this year's Hydrogen Plant exhibition in Norway.
Starting today, the exhibition coincides with the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) Conference.
Intelligent Energy will demonstrate its highly acclaimed zero emission ENV motorcycle, as well as a series of groundbreaking automotive hydrogen fuel cell systems commissioned by Peugeot Citroen.
Hydrogen fuel cell technology is credited as the answer to the automotive industry's dependence on polluting fossil fuels. Mixing hydrogen and oxygen to create thrust, the only bi-product of a fuel cell engine is water.
The exhibition and conference is taking place in the south-west coastal city of Stavanger, near the site of the country's first hydrogen refilling station – which will be officially opened on Wednesday August 23rd.
Built by natural gas supplier Statoil as part of the national HyNor initiative, the refuelling site will support hydrogen-powered transport when the technology becomes commercially viable.
The goal of the HyNor scheme is to create a functional 'hydrogen highway' between Stavanger and the capital Oslo by 2010.
