Hydrogen power dominates clean technology show 10th May 2005
Hydrogen power was the dominant renewable energy form at this year's Clean Energy Technology and Investment Show (CETEX) held last weekend in London.
The three-day event brought together members from the renewable energy and zero emissions transport industries to promote uptake of clean technologies.
Despite stands focusing on wind, solar and biofuels, the seminar and conference was almost entirely dominated by hydrogen, according to H2CarsBiz.
The exhibition, held in the Business Design Centre in Islington, featured electric cars and scooters, Toyota Prius hybrids and an ethanol-biofuel Saab.
A study presented by Imperial College at the exhibition showed that support for hydrogen amongst the public is directly linked to the level of knowledge about it, suggesting that future initiatives to educate people are needed.
The point was also made that the US and the Far East are currently ahead of Europe in the commercialisation of fuel cells, the UK having only just opened its first hydrogen filling station, in Hornchurch near London.
However, other hydrogen-related events are coming up soon in the UK this year, suggesting a growth in interest and awareness in the country. The NEC Birmingham is holding a Building Sustainable Solutions conference at the end of this month while the Ninth Grove Fuel Cell Symposium will be held in London from October 4th to 6th.
