A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has been unveiled in China, the first of its kind to be produced in the country.
In a project which saw collaboration between Tsinghua University, carmaker Chery Automobile and J&K Technologies, the first fuel cell vehicle produced in China has passed tests by the country's authorities.
The news represents a major step forward for the fuel cell car industry, as China is anticipated to be one of the biggest growth areas for industry in the automotive market in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Tsinghua University is developing Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells which can be used in vehicles.
Earlier this year, professor Zong Qiang Mao, from the university, predicted that China would have as many as 20,000 fuel cell buses operating across the country by 2020.
