Hydrastax 5000 fuel cell 'will be available in the autumn' 17th March 2008

The Hydrastax 5000, a hydrogen fuel cell system which is used to provide electricity for everyday homes, will be available commercially this autumn, it has been revealed.

So says Lexie Weaver, director of operations for American Hydrogen Corporation, the firm which collaborated with the producer of the fuel cell - Hydra Fuel Cell - to demonstrate the system at a house in Miami.

American Hydrogen, which like Hydra is owned by American Security Resources Corporation, is itself licensed to commercialise a converter which can crack ammonia molecules into hydrogen and nitrogen. The hydrogen can then be used to run hydrogen fuel cells.

According to Frank Neukomm, chairman of American Security Resources Corporation, the fuel cell system is ideal for use at residential property.

''The design these guys [Hydra] came up with can be mass-produced and operate at a lower temperature," he told the Miami Herald.

"There is nothing more central to the security of the United States than energy security, and this can reduce our dependence on carbon-based resources.''

The Hydrastax 5000 produces five kilowatts of electricity - enough to power the average house or serve as an emergency power supply.
