Honda unveils new ultra-low emissions engine 18th June 2003
Honda has today (June 18th) unveiled its new V6 engine, which will use catalytic converters to deliver a standard that meets all of the latest Japanese emissions criteria.
The engine features Honda's 'i-VTEC' technology, which it says offers 'superior fuel economy' and emissions control without affecting performance.
This new 'powertrain' will debut in the new Inspire model scheduled for release in Japan tomorrow (June 19th), which will meet Japan's ministry of land, infrastructure, and transportation requirements for ultra-low emissions and 2010 fuel consumption standards.
The advent of commercial vehicles that are eligible for preferential 'Green Tax' treatment marks a significant development in the automotive industry's use of converters.
The new engine achieves its efficiency by combining high-density catalytic converters located directly below each cylinder head for improved exhaust gas processing at low engine temperatures.
