Honda to show FCX fuel cell car in Toyko 19th October 2005
Honda is using a home energy station in its latest hydrogen fuel cell car, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The FCX concept car runs on a hydrogen fuel cell, whose energy is provided via a home energy system that delivers hydrogen refined from natural gas.
The system cuts emissions of carbon dioxide by up to 40 per cent.
Two hydrogen tanks and a fuel cell stack are built into the vehicle, which runs on an 80kW electric motor at the front and two rear 25kW motors.
Also capable of providing electricity to the home, the home energy system recycles heat released during energy production to heat domestic water supplies.
Another unique feature of the FCX is a system that, due to sensors and cameras, can effectively recognise the car's owner as they approach and unlock the car for them.
