Honda explores home fuel cell system 23rd November 2005
Honda has announced plans for a new home power generator set-up that can provide energy for heating a home and fuelling the next generation of green cars.
On the back of the development of the hydrogen-powered fuel cell car, the FCX, Honda R&D Americas has now unveiled the Home Energy Station III.
The device uses natural gas as its main energy source and provides electricity indoors, as well as enough hydrogen to power a fuel cell car for a day.
Ben Knight, vice president of Honda R&D Americas, hopes the invention will soon become a workable option to households.
"The combination of home energy generation and home refuelling offers an attractive alternative to gasoline and takes us one step closer to a truly viable hydrogen-based transportation system," he said.
Hydrogen storage and production capacity are both improved by about 50 per cent on the company's latest model, which is capable of providing five kilowatts of electrical power to the home.
