Hallmarking workshops to feature in London Jewellery Week 20th April 2010
Platinum and palladium jewellery fans are being invited to two workshops devoted to hallmarking this summer, it has been confirmed.
The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office of London will be hosting the events on Monday 7th June as part of this year's London Jewellery Week.
In addition to the workshops, those in attendance at the Livery Hall will be given the chance to test an item of their own jewellery to determine its precious metal content.
"[The event] will comprise an informal presentation covering all you need to know about hallmarks including the origins of hallmarking, what a hallmark means and how it is applied," noted the assay office.
"[Secondly], the workshop will cover four exciting hands-on sessions where you will learn how to read hallmarks, how to spot fake hallmarks, the importance of protecting your valuables and the modern method of assaying."
Tickets for the two events are limited but can be reserved for £10 by contacting Alison Byne on 020 7606 8971 or at Alison.Byne@assayofficelondon.co.uk.
The morning session runs from 10:15 to 12:30 BST, while the afternoon session commences at 13:30 and concludes at 15:45.
Palladium hallmarking is now well underway in the UK after it was granted precious metal status in July 2009.
