GSP lands 'super-ethanol' platinum-based plants 12th June 2003

Green Star Products (GSP) has announced it has purchased two platinum-based commercial 'super ethanol' plants in the US.

GSP has secured outright ownership of the Kentucky plants, and has also landed 100 per cent of the intellectual property rights to produce super ethanol.

Now the company will use the three patents that describe the procedure to form a new higher-octane ethanol, harnessing the platinum catalyst that is the basis for the process.

The ethanol plants use a platinum catalyst and are designed to operate at a pressure of 500 psi and a temperature of 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

The plants have been designed with a dual operating function that also allows them to be used to upgrade low octane gasoline to a consumer grade.

The production capacity of this plant is expected to reach 35 million gallons per year at full production, a major step in the bid by the US to boost production of 'biodiesel'.

Recently the US government passed the energy bill and the farm bill with many incentives offered to expand biofuel production and its use in the US, drawing bi-partisan support.
