Global fuel cell sales soar 1st November 2004

Worldwide fuel cell-related sales accelerated by 41 per cent between 2002 and 2003, according to the 2004 Worldwide Fuel Cell Industry Survey.

The survey, conducted by the US Fuel Cell Council (USFCC), found that reported sales of fuel cell products, parts and services were $240 million and $338 million for 2002 and 2003 respectively.

The report on key indicators of industry performance also shows that reported fuel cell related research and develpments expenditures for 2002 and 2003 were $764 million and $859 million respectively, representing a 13 per cent increase between the two years.

PricewaterhouseCoopers conducted the survey and analysis on behalf of the trade association, providing an independent snapshot of the industry.

The study was compiled using responses from member companies of the US Fuel Cell Council, Fuel Cell Canada, Fuel Cell Europe, and the Fuel Cell Commercialization Conference of Japan.

"This is the first-ever industry-driven survey to research and compile information globally on key year-over-year financial and other important performance measures that will track the industry's health," said Robert Rose, USFCC executive director.

"The council looks forward to continuing to provide reliable measures of global industry growth on an annual basis."

Membership of the USFCC encompasses producers of all types of fuel cells, as well as major suppliers, fuel providers, government agencies, universities, OEMs, and customers.
